Geography
Geography is important at Woodmansterne as it provides a means of exploring, appreciating and understanding the world in which we live and how it has evolved. It stimulates curiosity, imagination and critical thinking about how the children can independently thrive in our world. Children will develop a deeper understanding of places both on a local and global scale and appreciate the need to live in balance with the environment.
Our geography topics are designed to enable teachers to forge meaningful, cross-curricular links giving a context for learning and develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other areas. This includes developing their reading and vocabulary skills and opportunities to work collaboratively.

Implementation
Within each year group there is a clear progression of skills, as set out in the National Curriculum, which builds on prior learning and further extends this knowledge at an appropriate level. We teach geography through our carefully constructed Learning Experience projects which are a sequence of lessons which develop both knowledge and skills and work towards a creative project with a clearly defined end product.
